We know - it’s not easy visiting a new church for the first time. Sometimes you feel like a nonmember visiting a country club. Do I belong here? Am I really welcome? Will the people be unfriendly, or too friendly? Will I be conspicuous? Will it be easy to leave if I don’t enjoy it? Will they ask me for money? Will my kids enjoy it? How should I dress? Am I welcome if I don’t believe?
It is the goal of the staff to make your visit an enjoyable experience, easy, stress-free, and relaxing. We want Fairview Village Church to be "user-friendly", for everyone; whatever their background or current or past lifestyle, including those who have never been to church before. If we were visiting a new church for the first time, we’d like to know what to expect, so here’s a brief overview.
When you arrive at Fairview Village for either our 9 a.m. or 11 a.m. service, you’ll park in any parking lot and use one of our entrances. There is a parking lot in the front and more parking is available in the back and on the lower lot. Don't worry you'll easily find your way!
At the front door, there should be some friendly people (we call them our "Host Team") to say hello, answer any questions you have, and direct you to the Worship Center. If you have kids, they can point you to the Welcome Desk and help you register your children. If your kids are shy, they’re welcome to attend the adult service with you, but most kids really enjoy the kids´ programs for infants through 12th grade, available during both services.
You’ll notice that everyone is dressed comfortably, in anything from "office casual" to jeans and sneakers. If you arrive early, you’re welcome to join us for a doughnut and cup of coffee at the cafe. Members usually spend a few minutes before or after services to greet each other. Our Host Team wears name tags to help identify themselves to visitors, so feel comfortable introducing yourself and they will help you find your way.
When you enter the front doors, you’ll be given a copy of our weekly bulletin. During the service, we hand out a "friendship folder"- if you choose to give us your name and address, we will send you information about the church the following week. We won't add you to a mailing list or give your information out. Please don't ever feel obligated to give money during the service. The offering is for those who are part of the Fairview Village family for support of the church and its ministries.
The service usually begins with music (with the words projected on the front screens) followed by a welcome. The pastor usually speaks for about 30 minutes- hopefully you will find the messages interesting, enjoyable, and relevant to daily life. Bibles are available for you to borrow, and primary scriptures are projected on the screens. Sometimes you will laugh, and often feel a tug at your heart, too. A prayer and music will follow the message.
We’ll close the service about 70 minutes after it began (and believe it or not, the time will fly). The services will close with a benediction, which is simply a prayer for those present. I hope you’ll come up and introduce yourself to us afterwards. Our Welcome Center, located near the main entrance, has a brochure about the church and a free CD of the sermon that was just preached for you to pick up after services. Please stop by and say hello.
After the service, you’ll pick up your kids from their classrooms, and then we hope you’ll stay around, meet some people and enjoy some more coffee. Church is about God and worship, but it’s also about community and friendship, so we hope people really experience warmth and friendliness at Fairview Village Church.
That’s about it. People constantly tell us that they really felt comfortable - "at home" are the words we hear most frequently. If you don't yet have a church home, we hope you’ll stop by this Sunday. And if you do, please come down and say hi, and tell us that you found out about our church on the Internet.
